Identifying Yourself with Encryption

WhatsApp is turning on end-to-end encryption. That is great. One problem with end-to-end encryption is that you look guilty for using it. Maybe you don’t want people casually seeing your financial info over WiFi. Maybe you simply don’t want to create food for gossip from curious others. Perhaps you simply feel more comfortable with encrypted information so you can disclose when you are ready. You might be a journalist (pro or amateur) and don’t want to be scooped somehow. Many reasons. Given the direction of things on encryption policy, people who use it are inevitably going to identify themselves in ways that could make it harder for them to progress, proceed through society. Either you use encryption to help safeguard your activities, or you stop using it to safeguard your standing with certain parts of society. Not an easy choice.
